Course Description:

The Practical Microbiology Online Course is a practical workshop that is covering all the techniques that are used in a typical microbiological, quality control department including:

• Choosing media
• Preparing the media
• Sterilizing the media
• The aseptic technique
• Preparing of agar plates
• Positive and negative controls
• Enumeration of bacteria
• Maintenance of bacterial cultures
• Water testing
• Environmental testing
• Gram staining

The course also includes a module on Good Micro Laboratory Practice. The content consists of short videos of the techniques, some theory and workshop exercises. Our courses not only provide the information, if followed, to comply with the guidelines but it also assesses the competence of the Microbiologist. Therefore you will have workshop exercises to complete in order to ascertain that you have grasped the main points outlined in the course. The exercises must then be submitted to us for marking. Once the final assessment has been completed and passed, you will receive our Certificate of Competency.
